Garment Industry Value-Added Consolidation and Information Services
Customer Need/Problem
A leading importer of garment products bearing its brand name with an origin network encompassing vendors located through Asia and the Sub-Continent was in need of a comprehensive service package that could provide cost effective consolidation services for LCL cargo throughout Southeast Asia and the Sub-Continent, coupled with highly detailed (SKU level) information capture and transfer capabilities that could suitably provide data to their internal system.
Service Solution:
In meeting the company’s requirements, OOCL Logistics implemented a broad-based consolidation and information services “package” for the Sub-Continent and Southeast Asia origin cargo. Key program elements include:
-
Cargo Consolidation: For the more than 90% of the company cargo requiring cross-dock service, OOCL Logistics will load containers per specific instruction in accordance with maximum loadability and pre-distribution requirements.
-
Multi-Country Consolidation (MCC): All LCL cargo will be re-routed to the OOCL Logistics MCC hub in Singapore, ensuring a favourable cost structure (vs. alternative modes) and maximum container utilization.
-
Document Handling: OOCL Logistics receives and forwards all commercial documents to the company and their associated brokers. Notices are sent in the event of delays in receiving of documents.
-
Bar Code Scanning: All cargo is bar code-scanned prior to container loading. The scanned information will be passed to the company (via EDI), providing complete packing list information.
-
EDI: Our customer populates (via 850 transactions) the MyPodium system with purchase order details. OOCL Logistics then sends shipping information (via 856 transaction) to update the customer’s internal system.
-
Information Services: Through MyPodium, our customer will have visibility of their purchase orders from booking to shipment. The company’s brokers, truckers and warehouse operation may also be permitted system access.
-
Vendor Management: Vendors will be monitored on shipment status prior to booking.
Customer Benefits:
-
Cost effective transportation due to maximized container utilization
-
Reduced administration expense due to automation of shipment-related information transfer and processing
-
Highly favourable costs for LCL shipments through the use of MCC and its associated pricing structure (prorated container rating vs. LCL rates)
-
More effective planning and operation due to timely receipt of information and expert oversight of vendor shipment activity
